Margin of Eras 2016 - The Shrine

<   return to Margin of Eras 2016

As part of Margin of Eras 2016, CUE created a shrine to acknowledge the ways in which artists who experience social, cultural, and economic marginalization have been failed by conventional institutions, and to imagine ways we can create a more equitable future in the arts, and beyond.

“The Institution of Art died in its sleep after a long struggle with the margins of society. The Institution of Art, which lived to an old age, is survived by the thousands of artists in our city who have been historically excluded from culture, but are part of a growing momentum of artists developing their practices outside of conventional systems.

This shrine is a place to acknowledge the ways institutions have failed us, and to imagine ways we can create a more equitable future for ourselves“.
