The Institution of Art died in its sleep after a long struggle with the margins of society.
The Institution of Art, which lived to an old age, is survived by the thousands of artists in this city affected by social, cultural, and economic inequality, the creative beauty alive outside of the conventions, and from communities historically excluded from culture. The Institution of Art will be remembered through its reinvention: art by and for those of us being pushed out of the system, by artists who are not being represented on the white gallery walls, who every day feel the gears of total systemic failure. Innovative art that cannot be measured in degrees; it encompasses the diversity of our city, and represents an accurate and current cultural narrative. Please join us in this urgent momentum.

In lieu of tears, the artists request that audience members bring an object of their choice to relinquish to a community-created shrine, in acknowledgement of our experiences as makers, facilitators, seekers, and admirers of art.
